Welcome to Tasmania, and the friendly town of Launceston! You will be met on arrival at Launceston airport and transferred* to your hotel. The rest of the day is at leisure for you to explore this beautiful city. Your hotel is located in the heart of the city with easy access to shopping and local restaurants. Day 2 | Woolmers Estate - Evandale - Cataract Gorge (B) |
Visit historic Woolmers Estate, regarded as Australia’s most significant colonial property with a collection of buildings, photographs, art and furniture.
Woolmers was continuously occupied by the Thomas Archer family from 1817 to 1994 and is acknowledged as one of the most outstanding examples of 19th century rural settlements in Australia. The array of extant buildings include family houses, workers' cottages, former chapel, blacksmith's shop, bake house, pump house and a gardener's cottage, which all provide an insight into the social structure of a colonial pastoral estate. Join your local guide for a tour of the main house and spend time exploring the National Rose Garden which covers 1.5 hectares and is planted with over 3,000 roses. Continue on to the Tasmanian Gourmet Sauce Company and sample their delicious range of locally made sauces, jams and conserves. Return to Launceston and visit the famous Cataract Gorge Reserve and explore its wonderful scenery through the network of walking trails. The afternoon is at leisure. |

Day 3 | Sheffield - Cradle Mountain National Park (B,D) |
This morning learn about the art of cheese making and taste some delicious produce at the Ashgrove Farm Cheese Factory, a family business since 1880 owned and run by successive generations of the Bennett family. Then on to the House of Anvers, for a guided tour of the chocolate factory and a real chocolate sensation European style. Located at Latrobe, in the property formally known as 'Wyndarra Lodge' a stylish Californian bungalow house built in 1931, Anvers is set on a large property featuring trees from around the world. Watch the confectionery staff mould and enrobe fine chocolates, truffles, pralines, fudges and more. Travel to the town of Sheffield, renowned for its street murals which depict its pioneering history, geography, wildlife and the people of this region. Settled in the early 1800's the town was home to early settlers and later became the centre for hydro-electric dam construction. Today it is home to artists from all over Australia and hosts an annual art festival in April. After lunch arrive into the stunning alpine scenery of Cradle Mountain National Park. Rising 1545 metres above sea level, Cradle Mountain is composed of dolerite columns, and is one of the principal tourist sites in Tasmania. Join your local guide for a visit to Dove Lake to see spectacular Cradle Mountain and visit Waldheim Chalet, built as a wilderness shelter by Gustav Weindorfer in 1912. Day 4 | Stanley “The Nut” - Strahan (B,D) |
Visit the far north-west reaches of Tasmania and see The Nut – a striking rocky outcrop rising over 137 metres, at Stanley. This distinctive landmark Is an old volcanic plug discovered by the explorers Bass and Flinders In 1798. It has steep sides and rises 143 metres with a flat top. You can walk via the steep track to the top or take the chairlift (own expense) for wonderful views over Bass Strait. This afternoon travel south through the mining and hydro electric towns of Rosebery and Tullah, towards the village of Strahan, a former important port for the logging industry in Western Tasmania, located on Macquarie Harbour. Board your luxury cruise vessel and enjoy the view as you cruise breathtaking Macquarie Harbour to Hells Gate, where the harbour meets the ocean. Travel along the serene Gordon River and visit Heritage Landing for a guided walk through the rainforest amongst trees thousands of years old. Rejoin your cruise vessel for a sumptuous buffet lunch. This morning ascend into the lunar landscape of the old copper mining centre of Queenstown and discover its history. View “The Wall in the Wilderness”, an artwork in progress, 100 hand carved Huon pine panels depicting the history of Tasmanian life are being created by sculptor Greg Duncan. Works include depictions of aboriginal people, the Tasmanian Tiger, the history of mining, agriculture and forestry in the West of Tasmania. Travel to Lake St Clair, Australia’s deepest natural freshwater lake and continue on to Mt Field National Park, one of Tasmania’s oldest and most popular National Parks and take a short stroll to stunning Russell Falls which rise 100 metres over a series of cascades. This evening enjoy your farewell dinner at the Drunken Admiral, one of Hobart's most iconic local restaurants and recall fond memories of your Tasmanian holiday with your fellow travellers. This morning stroll through Salamanca Place and explore the colourful stalls of bustling Salamanca Markets, one of the Nation’s most popular markets. Over 300 stallholders sell fresh and gourmet produce, arts, crafts and handiworks from all over Tasmania, interstate and overseas. Your tour concludes with a transfer* to Hobart airport.
